FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression is centred over the south Tasman Sea and its associated frontal system is crossing New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—North-west winds developing, fresh or strong in some inland areas; some rain in the Alps but elsewhere partly cloudy and mild. Outlook: scattered showers. Marlborough and Nelson.—North to northwest winds, strong at first about Cook Strait but decreasing; overcast with a period of rain this morning followed by some scattered showers; moderate temperatures. Outlook: showery. Buller and Westland.—Moderate northerly winds; overcast with periods of rain; moderate temperatures. Outlook: showery.
