Support From Wairewa

The Wairewa County Council on Friday agreed to support moves to protect pukeko. A letter asking for support was received from the Pukeko Protection Society. The chairman (Cr W. S. C. Mcßae) said he did not see much sense in shooting pukeko. There were not many native birds about now Cr K. H. Parkinson said pukeko were no good for eating. Persons usually shot them and let them lie.
