Waugh Beaten In Rothmans Squash
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. The power of C. Nancarrow’s drives enabled him to beat a fellow-Australian, K. Hiscoe, in a first round match of the Rothmans round-robin squash rackets series at the Remuera courts on Saturday.
As a result of his defeat by R. Carter (Australia), C. R. Waugh (Henderson) is out of the knockout section of the tournament. Five Australians remain, but there will be a further casualty at Rotorua today when E. Hamilton meets L. Robberds in another knockout match. Today’s other matches will be between Nancarrow and Waugh, Hiscoe and J. Walker (Hamilton) and Carter and V. L. Greene (Hamilton). Nancarrow and Hiscoe provided the match of the day
on Saturday, but Waugh played courageously to holdj Carter for a game and a half. | P. Dibley (Remuera) beat; the Australian Hamilton | coolly, and J. Stevens played; methodically to trounce the! Australian No. 6 Robberds. Results: R. Carter (Australia) beat C. R. Waugh (Henderson). 8- 9-6, 9-2, 9-0; C. Nancarrow (Australia) beat K. Hiscoe (Australia), 9-7, 10-9. 2-9, 9-6; P. Dibley (Remuera) beat E. Hamilton ' (Australia). 3-9. 9-6, 9-5. 9- J Stevens (Remuera) beat L. Robberds (Australia), 9 4.1 9-2. 9-3.
