It is the first of its kind, to 'be successfully used in Australia. The fibre glass components of the hand, which contains a small electronic motor and an amplifier powered by a battery, were imported from Australia at a cost of sAust4oo. Mr Appleton lost his hand 25 years ago while serving |as a petty officer aboard the : cruiser H.M.A.S. Canberra. A 1 shell accident blew his hand off.
