$105,750 To Help Aged

The Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council had been granted $12,000 from Golden Kiwi lottery profits, Dr R. G. McElroy, the chairman of the Welfare and Aged Persons’ Distribution Committee, said on Friday. The Senior Citizens’ Association, Christchurch, has received $350. The committee approved grants and subsidies of $105,750. Subsidies worth $44,000 were approved for club-room projects for the Mount Eden Senior Citizens’ Club ($24,000), the New Zealand Pensioners’ Association, Hokitika ($8000), and the Alexandra Elderly Citizens’ Social Club ($12,000). Grants of $61,750 were approved for immediate payment to cover assistance for old people’s associations and clubs, welfare councils, and the equipping and maintenance of old people’s homes. The South African War Veterans’ Association received $2OO.
