TRAWLER DUE

Fish For Japan

A trawler to be used by a combined New Zealand-Japan fishing venture sailed from Shimonoseki on Thursday, and is expected to arrive in Lyttelton in about 16 days. It is the 142 ft Kohoku Maru No. 2 which has been bought by the Japanese Taiyo Company and refitted for its new requirements. Mr E. B. E. Taylor, the chairman of Taimoana Fisheries, Ltd, said yesterday that a small group of Christchurch citizens had put money into the venture, and it was hoped that work would start soon after the trawler’s arrival. The company plans primarily to export fish to Japan. About 48 per cent of the shares in the venture are owned by the Japanese company, and there will be some Japanese advisers aboard for the first trips. Eventually it will be manned by a New Zealand crew of 15.
