Carnival Events
Traditionally a period of entertainment for all sections of the community, the Labour Week-end carnival programme each year attracts many thousands of visitors to the Rangiora district from all parts of the province. The four-day programme includes the Northern A. and P. Association’s annual show, the spring race meeting of the North Canterbury Racing Club, an airwomen’s rally, and a carnival and jumping show. One of the most popular events in the Canterbury country show circuit, the Rangiora show has attracted large entries, and attendances should continue at the consistently high level of recent years. The week-end activities will begin tomorrow morning with the preliminary dog trial and hunter events at the Rangiora Show Grounds. Saturday will be the main day of the show, with a full day of judging, as well as the usual commercial
exhibits, sideshows, and amusements.
The New Zealand Airwomen’s Association will stage its annual rally at the Rangiora Airfield on Saturday and Sunday, with displays of aerobatics, parachuting, and gliding—all done by women pilots. Joy rides will be given, too.
On Monday, the very popular race meeting of the North Canterbury club will be held at the Rangiora Raceway. One of the best country courses in New Zealand, it makes an ideal setting for family groups. Another major attraction on Monday will be the combined fun carnival, jumping show, and kennel dog championships at the Rangiora Show Grounds, which provides something for all tastes.
