The Compass And Life
Sir,—“Frontiers of Science” discusses the changing of the polarity of the earth’s magnetic field. The cause must have been a cataclysm such as the close proximity of a passing heavenly body of large mass, which tended to wrench the earth from its brbit, and in so doing changed the rotation of the earth on its axis, with the consequent shifting and splitting of the continents and land masses, volcanic upheaval, and deluge from the oceans. In such a catastrophe only the simplest of living organisms would survive.—Yours, etc., T. C. WATKINS. October 14, 1967.
