Cr M. B. Howard, M.P., was welcomed back to the Christchurch City Council last evening after a long illness. Mr Denis Sullivan, husband of Mrs W. Tirikatene-Sullivan, M.P., has been awarded a doctorate in philosophy of the Australian National University at Canberra for work in nuclear physics. Official adviee was received yesterday. The former Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia, Mr Garfield Todd, left Auckland by air for Canada on Sunday night immediately after addressing the congregation of the Church of Christ, Onehunga.—(P.A.) The Rev. E. H. Newman, vicar of Otaio-Bluecliffs, South Canterbury, since 1963, has been appointed vicar of Ox-ford-Cust, and is expected to take up his new post in February.
