FERRYMEAD BRIDGE TRAFFIC PLAN
Alterations to Intersections in the immediate vicinity have been made necessary by the new Ferrymead bridge across the Heathcote River. On the west bank Humphreys Drive, which was a Yintersection, will become a T-intersection. Several traffic islands are to be built at the intersection.
On the east bank, efforts have been made to square
the entry of Bridle Path Road and St Andrew’s Hill Road on to the main road. Previously, this part was one large intersection but the
squaring of St Andrew’s Hill Road has separated them. Users of St Andrew’s Hill Road will find its new angle on to the main road less con-
venient as they cannot get a | good run up the hill, but the new alignment is safer. When central traffic islands are built at these two intersections, access to the hill will be slower still. ' The reserves department intends to plant trees and to landscape the ends of the bridge on the south side, in place of the approaches to the old bridge. Menlo Terrace and Ferrymead Terrace will have access over the curbing and channel-
ling in the positions Shown. The plan was drawn by the engineers’ department of the Christchurch City Council.
