Pool Plan Supported

More than 100 Lyttelton residents unanimously supported proposals for a public swimming pool at a special meeting last evening. The meeting was called by the Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett) after the convener of a special committee, Cr R. H. Duff, had reported to the Lyttelton Borough Council. At present, Lyttelton has only a small swimming pool at West Lyttelton School. The suggested site for a public pool is in Oxford Street Cr Duff said the pool would cost at least $44,000. It would be 110 ft long and 44ft wide. If funds were raised voluntarily a Golden Kiwi lottery subsidy could probably be obtained. A steering committee was elected to investigate the proposals and report to a meeting on November 27.

Charge Withdrawn. —A charge against Kurt Midtgaard, aged 33, a Danish seaman, of absenting himself without leave from the m.v. Birgitte Skou at Lyttelton on i September 16, was withdrawn by leave of the Court when it was called before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, jit was said that Midtgaard’s body had been found in Lyt[telton Harbour.
