Fill FOR BRITAIN
Advice To Buy <N.Z. Prett Aran.—Copyright) LONDON, October 16. The Government was still to go ahead with its deal to spend £4oom on American Fill swingwing bombers, In spite of the aeroplane's technical troubles which have caused a political storm in the United Stales, Chapman Pincher said in today’s "Daily Express”. This decision resulted from the visit to America of the Minister of Aviation, Mr John Stonehouse. While there he flew the Fill and was fully briefed on its performance by United States Air Force chiefs. Mr Stonehouse, a war-time R.A.F. pilot, took over the Fill’s controls during an 80minute flight from an airfield near Las Vegas on Saturday.
His report to the Cabinet would state that the plane fully satisfied the ILA.F.’s specifications, Pincher said. United States officials had assured the Minister that it had been flown at more than 1500 m.p.h. with wings folded and landed at only 116 m.p.h. with wings outstretched.
