FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weak front lies over the central North Island and a strong, disturbed westerly airstream flows over the south of the country. Forecast:
Canterbury and the Kaikoura coast. —Winds mainly moderate and variable; north-westerlies probably freshening again in some inland areas later; mainly fine, with mild day temperatures, but some showers at times in the southern areas of the Alps.
Buller and Westland.—Moderate southwesterlies predominating; cloudy; some patches of drizzle or light rain; moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Winds mainly moderate and variable; westerlies fresh at times in exposed northern areas; partly cloudy and mild, but some rain at times on and near the western ranges. Marlborough.—North-westerlies, fresh to strong in exposed areas; partly cloudy in central Marlborough, elsewhere cloudy, with drizzle patches morning and night; mild. Outlook. —Some rain on the West Coast; elsewhere mainly cloudy.
