Bureau Of Shipping
One of the vice-presidents of an American based firm which has a backlog of 8 million tons of international shipping on its books arrived in Christchurch at the weekend. He is Mr R. C. Christensen, head of the surveys division of the American Bureau of Shipping in New York. With him is Mr W. Porritt. who is the principal of the surveyirig division for Australia and New Zealand. Mr Christensen is in New Zealand for seven days meeting local representatives of his company. “Although we are an international organisation we do not have much activity in New Zealand,” he said.
He said the English counterpart of the American Bureau of Shipping was the Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.
