Record Time To Beeston
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. The slightly-built New Zealand and Auckland representative, the 20-year-old B. Beeston, won the seventeenth annual Taranaki round-the-mountain road cycling race in record time on Saturday. He outsprinted four other scratch riders along the grass straight of the New Plymouth racecourse to record a time Of Shr 46min 54sec which was smin 15sec faster than the record set in 1962 by L. J. Byers (Auckland). Beeston. who is trained by Byers, won by a length from M. Grace (Point Chevalier) and T. J. Tabak (Christchurch). Tabak tried hard to steal the fastest time honours when he broke away from his co-mark-ers about five mites from the finish. He established a break of about 300 yards and held it for three miles, but eventually the others, led by Beeston, and Grace, caught Mm.
