SICK BAY OPENED

Langford House Ceremony

A sick bay costing just more than $7OOO, which has been built at Langford House, run by the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council, was opened by the Mayor (Sir George Manning) on Saturday. More than 100 persons, including some Of the 51 residents at the home, members of Langford House committees, and members of the executive of the Aged People’s Welfare Council attended the ceremony.

Other speakers were Miss C. M. Ryan, a member of the Langford House committee and chairman of the sub-com-mittee organising the building, and Mr W. H. Larcombe, chairman of the Langford House committee.

The sick bay, which will provide accommodation for sick persons at the home who are not ill enough to be sent to hospital, has been converted from an old laundry. It contains two wards, each with two beds, a sluice room, showers and lavatories. The cost of the conversion has been Subsidised by the Government in line with its new policy to improve older homes.

The secretary of the council (Mrs M. E. Lawrie) said yesterday that the council was very grateful for donations for furnishings, and furnishings which had been received for the new wing. A bring and buy sale organised by the Langford House comforts committee was also held at the home on Saturday.
