EROSION AT BEACHES
Although erosion on beaches in the northern part of the Canterbury Bight had reached an equilibrium, erosion on beaches south of the Kaitorete Spit was still vigorous, Mr R. Kirk, a student at the University of Canterbury, said at the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Geographical Society. In his annual report, the chairman (Mr C. L. Knight) suggested a vigorous campaign to recruit new members, not necessarily in quantity, but of the quality able to disseminate geographical knowledge. Officers elected were:— .
President, Mr T. E. French; vice-presidents, Professors G. Jobberns and W. B. Johnston and Dr L. G. Symons; chairman, Mr N. Webb; secretary, Dr R. G. Cant; treasurer, Mrs R. G. Turner, organiser of junior branch, Mr R. B. Deaker; committee, Messrs H. Filer, W. J. Clark J. M. Renner, W. T. Burdett, D. Grenland and R. Kirk and Miss M. Elliott.
Site Approved.—New Zealand is the sixth nation to approve formally, an exhibition. site in the Japanese World Exposition in Osaka, Western Japan in 1970. The other nations are Russia, Canada, Austria, France and Belgium.—Tokyo, October 13.
