All Were Trials
The man who should know, Mr W. W. Carruthers, has pointed out a mistake made in a recent soccer article under the heading, “Inter-Island Soccer Has Been Stop-Go.” The article said that of the three inter-island games that had been played in the last 13 years, only the 1954 match in Christchurch was not held as a trial 'for an overseas tour. The article bewailed the N.Z.F.A.’s failure to make this match an annual affair, as in Rugby. Now the N.Z.F.A. cannot point to this one match as an exception to the general pattern. From the 1954 game was selected the team to tour Australia. And, as stated earlier, Mr Carruthers should know. Ho managed the touring team.
