MANNIX FANCIED IN GUINEAS TODAY

Point Duty—Loofah For Wellington Double

Mannix should meet all demands of a testing mile by winning the Wellington Guineas at Trentham today.

Mr H. McCarvill’s powerful Gigantic colt returned to his best first-season form with a slashing win in the Great Northern Guineas last week.

With form to back his obvious class, he should be too strong for the others in the Wellington chib’s feature spring race for three-year-olds. Many are hoping for a meeting between Mannix and the Hawke's Bay Guineas winner, Bompa. Yesterday, Bom pa’s connections were hopeful of a start, but a decision will be delayed until after a veterinary inspection this morning. Bompa still had a slight filling in a leg yesterday but it was considered he would be fit to start if there was no change by this morning. Captain’s Command was out of sorts on Thursday, and has been scratched for the Shorts Handicap, second leg of today’s T.A.B. double. Krazikid will now be the South island’s only representative in this valuable sprint. The first leg of the T.A.B. double will be the Wellington Handicap, which should have some bearing on early favouritism for the New Zealand Cup next month. Point Duty, Fremont, and Summer Magic, all New Zealand Cup entrants, may be the pick of today’s field. Trentham had rain, but also high winds yesterday morning, and there was sunshin.e later. The ground was hardly affected, and if the weather Is fine today the footing will be good. Fields, riders and comments on form appear below. FIRST LBG OF ON-COURM OOUBLB
