WOMAN KILLED
Trapped In Fire (N.Z. Preet Aeeoetation) AUCKLAND, Oct 13. An elderly woman died in a fire which gutted a house in Morningside tonight She was Mrs Elia Emily Lang, aged 62, cook, of 618 New North Road, Morningside. Mrs Lang, a widow, was asleep when the fire broke out in her room about 9.15 p.m. Her 11-year-old granddaughter, Robyn Toi, who was staying in the house, gave the alarm when she saw smoke from the bedroom. She rushed to a back room of the house where a lodger, Mr A. C. Edmonds, aged 57, was alseep.
Mr Edmonds tried unsuccessfully to get Into the room where Mrs Lang was trapped. He then helped Robyn through the front window and escaped from the house through the back door.
