Great Conductor
Sir, —New Zealand has been fortunate in having visits, short and long, from various distinguished conductors. During concert items all the
public see of the conductor is his back. I hope that our new concert chamber will have a gallery from which musicians and music students may be able to look over the orchestra and see the conductor. In Wellington Town Hall I was once able to watch Mr Henry Bishop conducting. During one item one player came in slightly late, a fact which my ear did not notice, but anyone watching the conductor knew instantly what the fault was, where it was, and that the player himself would be careful not to repeat that fault.—Yours, etc., ARTHUR LUSH. October 11, 1967.
