Liberia Leads The World

Liberia has toppled Britain from her century-old position as the world’s leading shipowning nation. Statistics published yesterday by “Lloyd’s Register of Shipping” showed that Liberia—a flag of convenience nation—added nearly 2m tons to her registered merchant fleet during last year, to give her the number one position. Last year she was third, with 20,603,000 tons. Britain added only 17,000 tons during the year, to make her new total 21,716,000 tone.
