October 11. The Bolivian Army displayed the bullet-riddled body of a guerrilla late yesterday and announced it had been “irrefutably” identified as Ernesto (“Che”) Guevara, the Cuban revolutionary ordered into the South American countryside two years ago to plan Communist rebellions for Premier Fidel Castro, United Press International reported. “1 am Che Guevara and I have failed,” the guerrilla was reported to have gasped after he was nearly cut in two by a fusillade from the guns of United States-trained Bolivian rangers who had tracked him through the hinterlands for months.
