“Erosion Of Pay Value”
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. ». The country’s economic plight could not be used by employers as a valid reason for resisting normal wage negotiations, the Arbitration Court was told today. Making this claim was Mr W. H. Clement, advocate for the Printing and Related Trades Union, in opening the case for the union In a dispute with the Federation of Master Printers, the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association and others.
Observing that the employers had not adopted their customary practice at arriving at agreement in conciliation, Mr Clement told the Court that the purchasing power of award rates of pay had eroded and the union was asking the Court to replace this erosion.
