Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Good supplies of all vegetables were available at Christchurch produce markets yesterday, especially lettuces from Oamaru and local growers. Lettuces sold from SI to 52.20 a case. Some North Island supplies of tomatoes were delayed by a train derailment near Taumaranui and did not arrive until about 1 p.m. They sold at prices from 43 cents to 70 cents a pound. Other prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers* Association were:— Silver Beet.—4o cents to 75 cents a case Beetroot.—so cents a case. Pumpkins.—To 312.50 a sack. Cabbages.—Savoy, to 95 cents a case; Spring, to 85 cents a case. Carrots. —50 cents to $1.20 a case. Cauliflowers.—Bo cents to $1.50 a case. Onions.—To $1.20 a sugar bag. Parsnips.—To $1 a case. Sprouts.—To $2.50 a case. Swedes.—To $1 a bag. Potatoes.—sl.2o to $l.BO a sugar bag. Spring Onions.—9o cents a dozen bunches. Radishes.—6o cents a dozen bunches. Parsley.—2o cents a bunch. Leeks.—To $1.50 a case. Celery.—White and Utah, 60 cents to $1.20 a case. Spinach.—To $1 a case. Cucumbers.—To 50 cents a pound. Rhubarb.—To $l.BO a dozen bunches. Grapefruit.—To $3 a case. Tamarillos. —$1.50 to $2.10 a case.
