TROTTING FINESSE LIKELY TOMORROW

New Brighton Meeting At Addington

Finesse and Cheeky, both placed at their only starts this season, could form the winning combination in the on-course concession double at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow.

Finesse shaped most attractively when she finished fourth behind Tyrone over 10 furlongs last Saturday.

The extra distance in the Introductory Stakes should suit her. Finesse showed outstanding form late last season and she looks ready to extend her record at short notice.

Warily was beaten narrowly by Tyrone last week and he will again be one of the brighter prospects. Martinique was third after pacemaking in last week’s sprint race. He too, is expected to be better suited by the longer distance in this

week’s race. Montage, Lustre Scott, Goldmount and Local Star are three other capable pacers likely to add interest to the finish. Cheeky, a fast finisher for third behind Corwar on August 19, should gain his first win for the season in the Avon Stakes, which will also be run over 13 furlongs from behind the mobile gate. Cheeky looked in great heart when he raced at the Hororata trials- on Tuesday and he should be one of the better prospects. Golden Fleece should appreciate the flying start. He was beaten narrowly by Highfire at the Kurow meeting and could easily make amends. Toff Scott has drawn badly, but after his fine run at trials earlier in the week he must be given a chance. Of the others none appeal more than Apex, Flight Adorian and Queensway. The T.A.B. double will be run on the Johns Free-for-aU and the Spring Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be in good order. Fields:—
