DENNISTON INCLINE
Film Feature In City A special issue of the National Film Unit’s “Passing Parade” which deals with the Denniston incline will be screened in Christchurch at the Majestic Theatre today. The'incline, which closed on August 16, carried more than 30 million tons of coal from hilltop colleries to the rail head at Waimangaroa for 88 years. It was regarded as one of the greatest engineering systems in the world when it was established. With the use of old still photographs the history of the incline is traced in the 17-minute film. Its work before it closed down is shown in detail. The man responsible for making the film is Mr H. MacDonald. Mr MacDonald, who is 23, has recently won two international film-making prizes.
