MINES KILL 3 U.S. SOLDIERS

SEOUL, August 30.
Three United States soldiers were killed and five others wounded in two separate explosions of mines believed to have been planted by North Koreans in the United States sector of the Korean Demilitarised Zone yesterday, reliable American sources said today, the Associated Press reported.
The explosions occurred about 30 miles north of Seoul In the general area of the North Korean machine-gun attack on a United States Army engineering company the previous day. The deaths brought to eight the number of American soldiers killed this month on the western front manned by the Second United States Infantry Division.
In border clashes and other incidents, 37 Americans were also reported wounded. South Korean casualties were two soldiers killed, 10 others and three civilian employees wounded. Yesterday’s incidents occurred when two United States trucks travelling inside the southern half of the two and a half mile wide Demilitarised Zone only a few miles from the truce village of Panmunjom detonated mines a mile apart, said the sources. ,
