FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A frontal zone over New Zealand and a depression in the Tasman Sea are both moving eastward. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds tending south-westerly and freshening later; mainly cloudy with showers developing; becoming colder with snow on the high country. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; changeable with showery periods, the showers heavy and with thunder; tending cooler. Nelson.—Winds mostly moderate and variable; cloudy with rain developing later; little change in temperature at times.

Marlborough.—North-west to west winds strong in exposed areas, moderating later, with south-westerlies freshening on the Kaikoura coast; mostly cloudy, with rain likely later; little change in temperature. Outlook: changeable and cold with showers. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
