Lincoln College
Sir, —It is pleasing to note the success of the Lincoln College hostel appeal. This is the time for rationalising and increasing the efficiency of our agricultural and horticultural education. I suggest: (1) The intermediate year now taught at Lincoln revert to the University of Canterbury at Ham, thus utilising more fully the facilities there and releasing teaching and hostel space at Lincoln for the students who must be taught there. (2) The horticulture teaching at present undertaken at Massey be abandoned and concentrated on Lincoln, utilising space vacated by intermediate students. This would make possible a single institution offering effective teaching and research opportunities in lieu of the small, subviable, and extremely costly horticulture departments. Massey would surely be glad of the space on its overcrowded campus if it could forget for a moment its traditional rivalry with Lincoln.—Yours, etc., W. C. CLARK. August 29, 1967.
