Supreme Court CHANGE OF PLEA
Two Charges Admitted
On two charges of wilfulb attempting to pervert the course of justice, Paul Ross Petersen, aged 22, a motor mechanic (Mr S. G. Erber), > who reversed in the Supreme Court yesterday previous pleas of not guilty, was re manded for sentence on Sep tember 6.
Mr Justice Wilson admitted Petersen to bail in the sum of $2OO, with similar surety, and ordered him to report daily to the police. Petersen was charged afteir he had passed himself off in another person, and presented that person's driver's licence, when stopped by a traffic officer in Merivale lane on January 11, Petersen at that time being a disqualified driver.
Judgment Set Aside After hearing legal argument, Mr Justice Wilson, in the Supreme Court yesterday, set aside a default judgment for a debt of $1133 obtained by General Foods (S.L), Ltd. (Mr D. G. Hill) against Trevor Thomas Whiting, an Ashburton storekeeper (Mr E. O. Sullivan). Mr Sullivan argued successfully that as the debt was incurred by a company. Tinwald Supply Stores, Ltd., of which Whiting was a shareholder, he had a substantial defence to the summons for debt against him, and that the default judgment which had been obtained should be set aside.
His Honour set the judgment aside conditional on Whiting filing a statement of defence to General Foods, Ltd.’s claim within seven days, and on the payment of certain costs.
