HAMILTON, August 30.
The executive committee of the New Zealand Taxi Proprietors’ Federation will investigate the possibility of applying for a general increase in taxi fares.
This was decided at the 29th annual conference of the federation being held In Hamilton.
A delegate to the conference from Manurewa, Mr M. J. Hartigan, presented a remit from Auckland advocating that the executive should investigate the possibility of making a case for a general increase in fares.
Mr Hartigan compared the wage increases of members of the Transport Department with'that of taxi owners during the period from 19541965.
“The taxi owners’ percentage increase is much lower than that of the Government department worker,” he Mid. “Almost less than one third, in fact.”
