TRAFFIC DROPS
Trucks In Tunnel
A slowing of the traffic growth rate this month, compared with that of the first four months of the financial year, was reported to the Christchurch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority by the chairman (Mr R. A. Witbrock) yesterday. To August 29 motor-car traffic had been $43 a day over the .budget estimate, but truck traffic had been $39 a day below the estimate, he said.
The total revenue was about $5 a day under budget estimates. It was estimated that goods-toll revenue for the month would be $1250 short of the budget
The corresponding month last year had been an extremely good one for truck traffic, and was the best for the year. “There are just not enough imports coming into the port,” Mr Witbrock said.
