‘MUST PAY WAY’
Port Launch Service
The estates committee of the Lyttelton Borough Council intended to make the Lyttelton - Diamond Harbour launch service pay, as far as possible, the chairman of the committee, Cr E. A. Camfield, told the council on Monday evening. The council, which took over the launch service a month ago, had subsidised the service for several years, and would probably have to continue doing so, Cr Camfield said. But the bulk of the service must pay.
The council was not averse to calling a public meeting on the service, and could call one when the service had been running long enough for the necessary statistics to be obtained, he said. It was decided to tell this to the residents who had written on the aervice. Two residents had asked for a public meeting.
