CANOEIST MISSING

Police yesterday searched the banks of the lower Styx river, the Brookland* lagoon, and tiie mouth of the Waimakarirl river for David Frederick Farquharson, aged 20, of 4 Heyders road, Spencerville, who has been missing since
Sunday evening. About 9.45 p.m. on Sunday Mr Farquharson told his sister, who lives with him, that he might go canoeing on the Styx river. The police were told at 2 p.m. yesterday that he was missing, and five constables were sent to search for him.
Late in the afternoon policemen found Mr Farquharson’s canoe at the Waimakariri river mouth. A paddle and a lifebelt were in the canoe.
Today the beaches to the north and south of the Waimakariri river will be searched.
