Tui Brewery Has Initiative
Tui Brewery, near Pahiatua in the North Island, is only a fraction the size of New Zealand Breweries and Dominion Breweries but what it lacks 'in size it makes up in initiative.
Leas than a year after announcing that the contract to brew Guinness stout would be terminated, Tul has reported that it will brew Tennent's Green Label Strong Ale in New Zealand.
This ale—a product of the Tennent Caledonian Brewery in Glasgow—is the strongest In the United Kingdom and will be on sale here within a week or two. To ensure that the quality in New Zealand will be the same as that in Britain, rigid standards laid down by Tennent; to an International formula, will be observed in the Mangatainoka brewery, and samples regularly will be sent to Scotland for parity tests.
This same brand of initiative by Tul secured the Guinness agreement and when this wag lost some regarded this as a loss of face by Tul. But sale of stout brewed and sold under the Tul label outstripped those of the Guinness brand and this may have been the reason for the change.
This latest move however, seems th e proper course to make up any loss in gallonage once the Guinness contract ends about the end of this year.
