FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A cold but decreasing southerly covers New Zealand. A ridge of high pressure is approaching from the Tasman Sea. Forecast:

Canterbury, Kaikoura coast and Marlborough Sounds.—Light or moderate south-west winds; a few coastal showers at first otherwise fine; cold.

Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Light or moderate south-east winds; weather fine and cool. Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate south-easterlies; weather fine with moderate afternoon temperatures.
