Pukaki Resiting
(N.Z. Press Association)
OAMARU, July 3.
The 200-acre site overlooking Benmore to the south and with a northerly outlook facing direct to Mount Cook has been chosen for the new township of Pukaki.
The resiting is a consequence of the Government’s decision to raise the level of Lake Pukaki.
Al a meeting of the Waitaki lakes committee executive at Pukaki on Saturday, under the chairmanship of Mr A. D. Dick,
M.P., possible sites were examined.
The Lands and Survey Department has been asked to prepare a plan for the development of the new township. The future for a village sited halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown and—with a pleasant day’s drive to the Hermitage, Mount Cook—appear very bright. It is thought that Pukaki could become a hotel-motel complex relieving much of the overtaxing of accommodation at Mount Cook.
