Aust.-N.Z. Joint Company Formed
A new joint New Zealand-Australian venture, with a capital of £120,000, will begin manufacture in Christchurch early next month. Initially, it will produce custom-built aluminium windows and doors for commercial buildings.
A 16,000 sq. ft factory is nearly completed at Lunns road, Middleton. The manager (Mr W. Cooper) yesterday said that the capital was contributed equally by Perry Metal Window Company, Ltd., of Adelaide, South Australia, and C. W. F. Hamilton and Company, Ltd., of Christchurch. The company would be Hamilton Perry Industries, Ltd. The Australian firm is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johns and Waygood Perry Engineering, Ltd., one of the biggest engineering groups in Australia. Hamilton's are a wholly New Zealand owned company.
Mr Cooper said that for many years the Australian company had specialised in the design, fabrication and installation of architectural aluminium work, as well as in supplying windows for the residential market
Hamilton Perry Industries, Ltd., would later be expanded to include other products in the light engineering field.
The company would have full access to the design facilities and technical knowledge of the Australian associates. Key members of the Hamilton Perry staff had already done training courses in Adelaide.
Mr Cooper said that some specialised plant, designed and manufactured by Perrys, had been sent to Christchurch for the new project. All raw materials —extruded aluminium, fillings, glass and glazing material—would be obtained from New Zealand sources. New staff would be recruited in Christchurch.
