Pee Wee, the beaten favourite tn the event for hack stayers at Ashburton last Saturday, showed his fitness for the Kingsdown Hack Handicap at Washdyke tomorrow when he completed his preparation in splendid style at Wingatui yesterday. Other candidates for the South Canterbury meeting to impress in their work were Belltana, Carpenter, Burnfoot, Lord Fair and Royal Burgh. The gallops were held under Ideal conditions on the plough and the Inside grass.
In one of the few trials on the plough Pee Wee, ridden by his race rider and trainer, J. R Dowling, shaded his stablemate. Gunga Din (T. Beckett) and Gay Gabador lE. J. Didham), at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec. They
kept up a strong gallop to run the last three furlongs in 39 sec. Farmer's Girl (P. McKay) appeared to be galloping easily alongside Casca (B. P. Kennedy) and Donald Mae (G. Mee) over a half-mile in 53 3-ssec, the opening furlong in 13sec. The remaining gallops were held on the grass. Carpenter was keen to gallop, but R. N. Marsh kept him at a steady pace and he did 55sec for half a mile. Summer Sand (E. J. Didham) and Highland Fair (R. Korostchuk) were together in 54 3-5 sec, the first furlong in 13sec. Counter (J. Brown) and Fay Macrae (A. K. Robinson) were
on terms at the end of three > furlongs in 41sec. Lisa (E. J. Didham) and Myfilou (B. J. Anderton) were ' given an easy task. After working at the rate of 15sec to , the furlong they ran home from the three In 43 2-ssec. Burnfoot (S. Ryder) and Smiley <T. Brown) ran their first two furlongs in 25sec and completed five furlongs In Imin 7sec. Lord Fair <B. P. Kennedy) : and Royal Burgh (G. Mee) took Imin 9sec for five furlongs, the last three in 42sec. Belltana (R. Korostchuk) i appeared to be only cantering, but he still ran five furlongs ' in Imin Usee, after taking 28 > sec for the first two.
