Tour Plans To Be Discussed

Plans for the preparation for the New Zealand cricket tour of Australia in November will be on the agenda for the New Zealand Cricket Council’s Board of Control meeting in Christchurch tomorrow.

The team will leave for Australia in November, but there are likely to be meetings of the chosen side well before the departure date.

There may be an indoor training schedule during one week-end, possibly in Wellington, and a match In the

North Island In October. These proposals will certainly be well worth the consideration of the board. As the New Zealand team leaves, from Christchurch just after Show Day week-end, it is possible that the board will also consider a match of two or three days against a Canterbury team. A match beginning on Show Day would have considerable public appeal. The New Zealand team will now leave for Adelaide two days later than originally planned, at the request of the Australian Board of Control. The side will fly from Christchurch on Tuesday, November 14, instead of Sunday. November 12. There is a Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide between South Australia and New South Wales which ends on November 14.

The programme for next season’s Plunket Shield series, and the itinerary for the Indian team’s tour of New Zealand are other matters which will be before the board.

So, too, will be the decision on the council’s major awards, the Redpath Cup for batting and the Winsor Cup for bowling. There seems to be no rival of G. T. Dowling for the batting trophy, but the performances of V. Pollard, B. W. Yuile and R. C. Mots, in particular, will make the bowling award a harder one to make. The balance sheet for last season’s tour by the Australian second team will be presented to the board. It is expected that it will show a substantial profit
