GOLFING LOSS
The promising golfer, P. K. Cleland, will be lost by Canterbury to Wellington next year. His father has been transferred from Christchurch and Cleland will go to Wellington about January. The 17-year-old Cleland, a pupil at the Christchurch
Boys’ High School, played a leading part in Russley’s winning the Woodward Cup in the senior inter-club series this year. He was beaten only once in seven matches. Last year he partnered R. K. Atkinson to win the Canterbury men’s foursomes title and, at the national amateur championships, he upset his fellow Russley player, J. R. Broadhurst, in the match play after Broadhurst had won the qualifying contest. In recent weeks, Cleland has won the Golf Foundation open tournament and tied with B. C. Taylor for second place in the provincial under--21 championship.
