River Jordan As New Boundary
(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, June 29. An Israeli Government envoy said last night in Paris that Jordan should accept the River Jordan as its future western boundary.
Mr Shimon Peres eaid: “King Hussein would be wise to return to the boundaries of his grandfather, the late King Abdullah.” King Abdullah’s kingdom of Trans-Jordania ended at the east bank of the River Jordan. The west bank—in Israeli hands since the Middle East war—was then Palestine. Mr Peres, who is touring Europe to win support for his
country, also said he believed the development of the west bank of the Jordan as an autonomous zone could solve the problem of Arab refugees. Speaking after his one-hour meeting with Mr Couve de Murville, Mr Peres, the former Defence Minister, said Israel was now trying to reach agreement with the Palestine Arab refugees on the west bank of the Jordan and in the Gaza strip.
