ICE SKATERS RECORD SOME FAST TIMES
The ice-racing season opened at Lake Ida over the week-end with the Centaurus club long track championships and some excellent times were recorded for so early in the season. R. Faikingham, recording 9min SO.lsec, was only lO.lsec outside his New Zealand record for the 5000 metres, and P. McLachlan, a flrst-year senior, showed promise in the same race by recording a personal best time of lOmin H.lsec. Results were: Men 500 Metres.—R. Faikingham. 51.8, 1; P. McLaughlin, 52.9, 2; T.
