Youth Killed
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 18. A youth was killed when the car he was driving left the road and plunged into the sea at Lower Portobello, near Dunedin, about 12.30 a.m. today. He was Ross James Coomer, aged 19, a locomotive trainee, of 5 Nicholson street, Dunedin. The car fell before landing upside down in 3ft of water. Mr J. F. Campbell, of Macandrew Bay, who was travelling ahead of Mr Coomer’s car, saw headlights leave the road. He returned, dived into the water, and rescued a passenger, Janet Lauren Abernethy, of Winston place, Alexandra. She was taken to the Dunedin Public Hospital, treated for shock, and discharged.
