FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A narrow ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand but a cold front in the Tasman Sea is advancing rapidly towards the country. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura coast.—Light winds at first; cloud increasing this morning with rain in the Alps and scattered brief falls elsewhere; a change to fresh southerlies with showers is expected later in the day; cold. Central Marlborough, the Sounds and Nelson. —Freshening north to north-westerlies with increasing cloud and a period of rain developing in Nelson about midday; cold. Buller and Westland.—Overcast with light winds and rain at first; south-westerlies freshening later in the day with showers; mainly cold.
