LAKELAND RALLY

'THE Lakeland car rally, one of the year’s major events in the South Island, will be held, tomorrow. About 40 cars will leave four starting points—Christchurch, Oamaru, Dunedin and Gore—from soon after 7 a.m., and the first car is due to finish the rally at Queenstown at 6 p.m.

Cars from the four starts will follow different routes until they meet in Oamaru, where there will be a lunch break. After lunch there will be a section involving navigation by map-reading, and this is expected to be the most difficult part of the rally, and will probably determine the winner.

There will be a touring section from Kurow to Omarama, and the organisers say there will be time for competitors to make sightseeing stops at the Aviemore and Benmore power projects. The final section of the rally will be from Omarama to Queenstown. > The event is being sponsored by the Atlantic Union Oil Company, and a representative of the company will present the awards and prizes at a special function on Sunday evening. The Christchurch starters will include a car sponsored by “The Press.”
