Cheese Factory To Double Output

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, June 1. The New Zealand Dairy Company is taking urgent steps to double the cheese output of its Waihi factory.

The general manager of the company (Mr A H. Woolven) said today that the company had decided, to accept the challenge of doubling the factory’s capacity practically overnight because of the growing importance of the cheese market

The company was aiming to increase the output at Walhi from 3000 tons this season to 6000 tons during the forthcoming season. Further improvements in mechanisation and efficiency would, it was hoped, boost output to 12,000 tons. “We are endeavouring to accomplish in a few months what would normally take 12 months. The factory will have to be ready to take the flush of next season’s milk flow.” Mr Woolven said the Dairy Board was anxious to increase cheese production as quickly as possible. There was an expanding market for cheese. Although the position was

a little obscure at present there was a promising market for cheese in the United States. Cheese exports to Japan were increasing rapidly.
