SUPREME COURT Damages Of £4731
A former maintenance fitter, George Arthur Patterson, aged 44, a process worker (Mr B. A. Barrer, with him Mr P. F. Tempero) was awarded £4OOO general damages and special damages of £731 17s 10d, by a jury in the Supreme
Court yesterday. Mr Justice Macarthur was on the Bench. Mr J. G. Leggat appeared for the defendant, Farrier-Waimak, Ltd. After the jury’s decision, his Honour entered judgment for £4731 17s lOd on Patterson’s behalf while reserving for the defendant for 21 days, leave to move for arrest of judgment or to set aside the judgment
Patterson had sought general damages of £B5OO after an accident at the Coutts Island plant of Farrier-Waimak, Ltd., where he had been employed as a maintenance fitter in September, 1965. The jury yesterday heard the final evidence presented for the defendant addresses from counsel for both sides and Mr Justice Macarthur’s summing up.
