Jay Ay For Melbourne

(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. The Awapuni trainer, T. R. Howe, returned from Australia on Tuesday after completing final arrangements for Jay Ay’s transfer to the Epsom stable of D. S. McCormick. Jay Ay will travel to Melbourne on the first available transport. Jay Ay is at present In Howe’s stable and has done well during his spell. Jay Ay caused a sensation when he beat Star Belle in the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes at Trentham in March. Not long after that meeting he was purchased by Mr J. M. Keele, of the Bahamas, for an undisclosed amount. In the colt’s two subsequent starts he finished third in the Awapuni Gold Cup and unplaced in the Ormond Memorial Gold Cup at Hastings. Mr Keele races several other gallopers in New Zealand, including the New Zealand Derby winner. Fair Account. Howe said on his return that Jay Ay would be nominated for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups. While in Australia the Awapuni trainer saw his own horse, Ba-teno, race. The Golovine gelding was second at Caulfield last Saturday.
